Are you a man of conviction? A man of conviction knows what he believes and stands by his convictions no matter the audience. It doesn’t matter if your Pastor is standing next to you or your best, most trusted friend. You Stand by that conviction regardless of the audience. As a man of conviction, you become a man of determination rather than a man of happenstance. When you become a man of conviction, you have already made the decision before the situation calls for it. As a man of conviction, you decide either to give all to Jesus and make Him Lord of your life, or you decide you are going to live of the world.
Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. Matthew 16:24
In this passage, you need to understand you are His disciple. When we become born again, we become followers of Christ. To be a follower of Christ, you need to deny your worldly self, take up your cross and follow Him. What does it mean to follow Him?
First, you must become a man of conviction. You have to convict yourself as God has called you. You have to repent. The only way to repent is to know you have something to repent for, conviction. A man of conviction repents for his sins.
Then you must understand that to become a follower of Christ, you are called to be a man of your word. You must be convicted by your words. When you offer your word to someone, you must stand by what you say. You have authority just as Jesus has authority.
18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20
Jesus tells us all authority has been given to Him and then tells the disciples to Go! Understand that when Jesus spoke as a Man of His Word, He told us He had been given all authority. Then, when He commands the disciples to go He is passing this same authority to them as He has been given authority. You are a disciple and you also have this authority. As a man of conviction, you need to recognize this authority and the power of your words just as the power of God’s Words. Jesus calls us to make a choice.
No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.” Luke 16:13
Jesus tells us we cannot serve two masters. While He specifically points out God and money, this verse can be applied to all aspects of your life. If you are a man of conviction, you realize you cannot serve God and worldly pleasures. You cannot serve God and get drunk every weekend. You cannot serve God and be addicted to drugs. You cannot serve and love your wife and go to the strip club on Friday nights. You cannot show up to church on Sunday, praising God and showing everyone what a great Christian man you are and then speak ill of the couple worshiping next to you on Monday.
A man of conviction is not afraid to rebuke sin and evil around him. A man of conviction will not put himself in a situation that would lead him to further sin. A man of conviction is a man of determination. A man of conviction will not put himself in a place that would lead to temptation. A man of conviction will become mindful of relationships outside his marriage. A man of conviction will not go with his single friend to meet women. A man of conviction would not allow himself to be alone with another woman. A man of conviction will not conceal his earnings or the money he spends from his spouse.
A man of conviction operates with integrity. A man of conviction will not allow himself to be placed in a compromising situation because he looks ahead to determine if the situation may put him in a bad light. A man of conviction seeks to honor God and his family. A man of conviction is a real man. A maximized man.
A man of conviction understands being a male is a matter of birth, but being a man is a matter of choice. A man of conviction understands God is always watching and he is never alone. A man of conviction understands manhood and Christlikeness are synonymous.
Are you a man of determination or a man of happenstance? Are you a man of conviction?
